M y work has often been presented as a discussion of archaic religion through comparative anthropology. Its goal is to shed light on the process of homimzation: the fascinating passage from animality to humanity that occurred thousands of years ago. In all of this, my hypothesis has concerned mimesis'. Because humans imitate one another, they have had to find a means of dealing with contagious similarity, which could lead to the pure and simple disappearance of their society. The mechanism by which they have done that is sacrifice, which reintroduces difference into a situation in which everyone has come to resemble everyone else. What this means is that humanity results from sacrifice; we are the children of religion. What I call (after Freud) the "founding murder"—the immolation of a sacrificial victim who is both guilty of disorder and able to restore order—is constantly reenacted in the rituals at the origin of our institutions. Since the dawn of humanity, millions of innocent victims have been killed in this way to enable their fellow humans to live together or at least not to destroy one another. This is the implacable log^c of the sacred, which myths dissimulate less and less as humans become increasingly self-aware. The decisive point in this evolution is Christian revelation. Rituals had slowly educated humans; after Christianity, they had to do without Christianity, in other words, demystifies religion. And yet, démystification, which is good in the absolute, has proven bad in the relative, for we were not prepared to shoulder its consequences. We are not Christian enough. The paradox can be put in a different way: Christianity is the only religion that has foreseen its own failure. This prescience is known as the apocalypse. Indeed, it is in the apocalyptic texts that the word of God is most forceftil, repudiating mistakes that are entirely the fault of humans, who are less and less inclined to acknowledge the mechanisms of their violence. The longer we persist in our error, the stronger God's voice will emerge from the devastation. This is why no one wants to read the apocalyptic texts that abound in the synoptic gospels and Pauline epistles. This is also why no one wants to recognize that these texts rise up before us because we have disregarded the Book of Revelation. Once in our history the truth about the identity of all humans was spoken, and no one wanted to hear it; instead we hang ever more frantically onto our false differences. Two world wars, the invention of the atomic bomb, and all the rest of the modem horrors have not sufficed to convince humanity, and Christians above all, that the apocalyptic tejcts might concern the disaster that is underway. Violence has been unleashed across the whole world, and our paradox is this: By getting closer to Alpha, we are going toward Omega; by better understanding the origin, we can see every day a little better that the origin is coming closer. Our fetters were put in place by the foxmding murder and unshackled by the Passion—with the result of liberating planetwide violence. 17 18 FIRST THINGS We cannot refasten the bindings because we now know that the scapegoats of sacrifice are innocent. Christ's Passion unveiled the sacrificial origin of humanity once and for all. It dismantled the sacred and revealed its violence. And yet, the Passion freed violence at the same time that it freed holiness. The modem form of the sacred is thus not a return to some archaic form. It is a sacred that has been satanized by the awareness we have of it, and it indicates, through its excesses, the imminence of the Second Coming. War, Heraclitus wrote, "is father of all and king of all." That law of human reladons was reformulated, a few years after Napoleon's fall, in an office of the Berlin Military Academy. And the reformulation took the shape of a trend to extremes, the inability of politics to contain the reciprocal increase of violence. Its author, Carl von Clausewitz (1780-1831 ), left his book unfinished when he died, but it is perhaps the greatest text ever written on war: a treadse that the English, Germans, French, Italians, Russians, and Chinese have read and reread from the end of the nineteenth century undl the present day. Clausewitz's On War claims to be a work on strategy. It discusses what was at the time the most recent example of the trend to extremes, which had occurred, as always, unbeknownst to those involved. Clausewitz spoke to us about his specialty as if it were not related to everything else that was going on around it, and the result has implications far beyond his discourse. He formulated and helped identify what might be called Prussianism in its most disturbing form, without considering the consequences of what he had identified. Ours is the first society that knows it can completely destroy itself. Yet we lack the belief that could bear up under this knowledge. It is not theologians who set us on the track of the new rationality; that was done by a man who died in 1831 at the age of fifty-one. He was a military theorist whom France, England, and the Soviet Union detested, a feisty writer who left no one indifferent. His actual theses have no future. Yet there is a subcurrent running beneath them that needs to be read aloud, for it can reveal a hidden reality. It would be hypocritical to see On War as only a technical book. What happens when we reach the extremes that Clausewitz glimpses before hiding them behind his strategic considerations? He does not tell us. This is the quesdon we have to ask today. Clausewitz had a stunning intuidon about history's suddenly accelerated course, but he immediately disguised it and tried to give his book the tone of a technical, scholarly treatise. We therefore have to complete Clausewitz by taking up the route he interrupted and following it to the end. Completing the interpretadon of On War is to say that its meaning is religious and that only a religious interpretation has a chance of reaching what is essendal in it. Through Clausewitz's text, the relevance of the apocalypdc texts becomes apparent with greater force. We must not turn the author of On War into a scapegoat, as did, in their dme, Stalin and one of Clausewitz's most famous commentators, Liddell Hart. We shall also not be content with the dmidity with which Raymond Aron tried to rehabilitate him. The reason the text is not yet fully understood is perhaps because it has been attacked and defended too often. It is as if we have not yet wanted to understand the central intuidon that it seeks to hide. This constant denial is interesting. Clausewitz was possessed, like all the great writers, by resentment. It was because he wanted to be more radonal than the strategists who preceded him that he suddenly put his finger on an aspect of reality that is absolutely irradonal. Then he retreated and tried to shut his eyes. Clausewitz conceived relations among men as mimedc, in spite of his philosophical approach being that of Enlightenment radonalism. He provided all the means for showing that the world is tending more and more to extremes, and yet his imagination always thwarted and limited his intuitions. Clausewitz and his commentators are hampered by their rationalism. This is as good a proof as any that a different kind of radonality is needed to understand the reality of what he glimpsed. Without realizing it, Clausewitz discovered not only the apocalypdc formula but also that it is bound up with mimedc rivalry. Where can this truth be understood in a w^orld that continues to close its eyes to the incalculable consequences of mimetic rivalry? Not only was Clausewitz right, in opposidon to Hegel and all modem wisdom, but what he was right about has terrible implications for humanity. This warmonger alone saw certain things. Christ allows us to face this reality without sinking into madness. The apocalypse does not announce the end of the world; it creates hope. If we suddenly see reality, we do not experience the absolute despair of an unthinking modernity but rediscover a world where things have meaning. Hope is possible only if we dare to think about the danger at hand, but this requires opposing both nihilists, for whom everything is only language, and pragmadc realists, who reject the idea that intelligence can attain truth: heads of state. AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2009 19 bankers, and soldiers who claim to be saving us when in fact they are plunging us deeper into devastation each day. By accepting to be crucified, Christ brought to light what had been "hidden since the foundation of the world"—the foundation itself, the unanimous murder that appeared in broad daylight for the first time on the Cross. In order to function, archaic religions need to hide their founding murder, which was being repeated continually in ritual sacrifices, thereby protecting human societies from their own violence. By revealing the founding murder, Christianity destroyed the ignorance and superstition that are indispensable to such religions. It thus made possible an advance in knowledge that was until then unimaginable. Freed of sacrificial constraints, the human mind invented science, technology, and all the best and worst of culture. Our civilization is the most creative and powerful ever known, but also the most fragile and threatened because it no longer has the safety rails of archaic religion. Without sacrifice in the broad sense, it could destroy itself if it does not take care, which clearly it is not doing. Was Paul a megalomaniac when he said in the First Letter to the Corinthians that "none of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory"? I do not think so. The rulers of the age, and all that Paul calls powers and principalities, were state structures based on the founding murder, which was effective because hidden. In the context, the leading power was the Roman Empire, which was essentially evil in the absolute but indispensable in the relative—and better than the total destruction about which the Christian revelation warns us. Once again, this does not mean that Christian revelation is bad. It is wholly good, but we are unable to come to terms with it. A scapegoat remains effective as long as we believe in its guilt. Having a scapegoat means not knowing that we have one. Learning that we have a scapegoat is to lose it forever and to expose ourselves to mimetic conflicts with no possible resolution. This is the implacable law of the trend to extremes. The protective system of scapegoats is finally destroyed by the Crucifixion narratives as they reveal Jesus' innocence and, litde by litde, that of all analogous victims. The process of education away from violent sacrifice thus got underway, but it moved very slowly, making advances that were almost always unconscious. It is only today that it has had increasingly remarkable results in terms of our comfort—and at the same time proved ever more dangerous for the future of life on Earth. To make the revelation wholly good and not threatening at all, humans have only to adopt the behavior recommended by Christ: Abstain completely from retaliation and renounce the trend to extremes. Indeed, if the trend to extremes continues, it will lead straight to the extinction of all life on the planet. This is the possibility that Raymond Aron glimpsed when reading Clausewitz. He then wrote an impressive work to expel apocalyptic logic from his mind and persuade himself at all costs that the worst could be avoided, that deterrence would always triumph. This budding religious clairvoyance is superior to what most people are capable of, but insufficient. We have to take the interpretation of the text further. The interpretation has to hefmished. Since the beginning of the "novelistic conversion" in my 1961 study Deceit, Desire, and the Novel, all of my books have been more or less explicit apologies of Christianity. Christianity is a founding murder in reverse, which illuminates what has to remain hidden to produce ritual, sacrificial religions. Paul compared it to food for adults, in contrast with food for children, which is what archaic religions were. Nietzsche himself sometimes had intuitions of this kind regarding the Greeks' "infantile" character. To make the situation even more perverse, however, Christian revelation is the paradoxical victim of the knowledge that it provides. Absurdly, it is conflated with myth, which it clearly is not, and doubly misunderstood by both its enemies and partisans, who tend to confuse it with one of the archaic religions that it demystifies. Yet all démystification comes from Christianity. Even better: The only true religion is the one that demystifies archaic religions. Christ came to take the victim's place. He placed himself at the heart of the system to reveal its hidden workings. The second Adam, to use St. Paul's expression, revealed to us how the first came to be. The Passion teaches us that humanity results from sacrifice, is born with religion. Only religion has been able to contain the conflicts that would have otherwise destroyed the first groups of humans. Mimetic theory does not seek to demonstrate that myth is null but to shed light on the fundamental discontinuity and continuity between the Passion and archaic religion. Christ's divinity, which precedes the Crucifixion, introduces a radical rupture from the archaic, but Christ's resurrection is in complete continuity with all forms of religion that preceded it. The w^ay out of archaic religion comes at this price. A good theory about humanity must be based on a good theory about God. People in the process of being educated, who are not yet fully human, can become so only by measuring themselves against the divine, and there comes a time when God can reveal himself fully to them. It is 20 FIRST THINGS understandable that Christ frightened the apostles. He is also, however, the only model, the one that places man at just the right distance from the divine. Christ came to reveal that his kingdom was not of this world but that humans, once they have understood the mechanisms of their own violence, can have an accurate intuition of what is beyond it. We can all participate in the divinity of Chnst so long as we renounce our own violence. And yet, we now know, in part thanks to Clausewitz, that humans will not renounce it. The paradox is thus that we are starting to grasp the gospel message at the moment when the trend to extremes is becoming the unique law of history. Christian revelation has confirmed all religions in its relation to the divine that is rejected by the modern world. It confirms what religions have glimpsed. In a way, it is because Christ accepted the mold of false resurrections that he is truly risen. The beneficiaries of archaic resurrections that reestablished peace and order were in a real relation to the divine. There was something Christian in all myths. By revealing the victims' innocence, however, the Passion makes positive what was still negative in myths: We now know that victims are never guilty. Satan thus becomes the name of a sacred that is revealed and devalued through Christ's intervention. At present, the Wise and the discerning (which I suppose now refers to academics) are furiously redoubling their attacks on Christianity and once again congratulating themselves on its forthcoming demise. These unfortunates do not see that their skepticism itself is a byproduct of Christian religion. While it is good to get rid of the sacrificial idiocies of the past in order to accelerate progress, eliminating obstacles to humanity's forward march and facilitating the invention and production of what will make our lives more prosperous and comfortable (at least in the West), it is nonetheless true that sacrificial stupidity w^as also what prevented us from perfecting ways of killing one another. Paradoxically, stupid sacrifice is what we are most in need of at present. Few Christians stul talk about the apocalypse, and they usually have a completely mythological conception of it. They think that the violence of the end of time will come from God himself. They cannot do without a cruel God. Strangely, they do not see that the violence we ourselves are in the process of amassing and that is looming over our own heads is entirely sufficient to trigger the worst. They have no sense of humor. Violence is a terrible adversary, since it always wins. Desiring war can thus become a spiritual attitude. We have to fight a violence that can no longer be controlled or mastered. More than ever, I am convinced that history has meaning, and that its meaning is terrifying. In fact, the apocalyptic moment serves as a link between Clausewitz's treatise and considerations on the destiny of Europe. If we take to its logical conclusion our analysis of a new global escalation of extremes, we have to consider the complete novelty of the situation since September 11, 2001. Terrorism has again raised the level of violence up a notch. It is one of the last métastases of the cancer that has torn the Western world apart. Terrorism is the vanguard of a general revenge against the West's wealth. It is a very violent and unpredictable revival of conquest, which is all the more terrifying because it has encountered America along the way. In this sense, everyone knows that the future of the idea of Europe, and thus also the Christian truth running through it, will be played out in South America, India, and China as well as in Europe. Europe has been playing a role analogous to Italy's during the wars of the sixteenth century, except worse. It has been the battlefield of the entire world. Europe is a tired continent that no longer puts up much resistance to terrorism. This explains the stunning nature of the attacks, which are often carried out by people on the inside. Resistance is all the more complex because the terrorists are close to us, beside us. The actions are completely unpredictable. The very idea of sleeper cells corroborates everything we have said about the violent mechanisms by which cultures mediate themselves: the identity between people that can suddenly take a turn for the worst. Atta, the leader of the September 11 group who piloted one of the four airplanes, was the son of a middle- class Egyptian family. It is staggering to think that, during the three last days before the attack, he spent his nights in bars with his accomplices. There is something mysterious and intriguing in this. Who asks about the souls of those men? Who were they and what were their motivations? What did Islam mean to them? What does it mean to kill oneself for that cause? We are witnessing a new stage in the escalation to extremes. Terrorists have conveyed the message that they are ready to wait, that their notion of time is not ours. This is a clear sign of the return to the archaic, a return to the seventh, eighth, and ninth centuries, which is significant in itself. But who is paying attention to this significance? Who is taking its measure? Is that the job of the ministry of foreign affairs? We have to expect a lot of unexpected things in the future. We are going to witness things that will certainly be worse. Yet people will remain deaf. AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2009 21 On September 11, people were shaken, but they quickly calmed down. There was a flash of awareness, which lasted a few fractions of a second. People could feel that something was happening. Then a blanket of silence covered up the crack in our certainty of safety. Western rationalism operates like a myth: We always work harder to avoid seeing the catastrophe. We neither can nor want to see violence as it is. The only way we will be able to meet the terrorist challenge is by radically changing the way we think. Yet, the clearer it is what is happening, the stronger our refusal to acknowledge it. This historical configuration is so new that we do not know how to deal with it. It is precisely a modality of what Pascal saw: the war between violence and truth. Think about the inadequacy of our recent avant-gardes who preached the nonexistence of the real. We have to think about time in such a way that the Batde of Poitiers and the Crusades are much closer to us than the French Revolution and the industrialization of the Second Empire in France. The points of view of Westem countries are at most unimportant background features for Islamists. They think of the Westem world as having to be Islamicized as quickly as possible. Analysts tend to say that this is the attitude of isolated minorities cut off from the reality in their countries. They may be so with respect to action, of course, but with respect to thought? Despite everything, does such thinking not contain something essentially Islamic? This is a question that we have to have the courage to ask, even diough it is a given that terrorism is a bmtal action that hijacks religious codes for its own purposes. It would not have taken such a hold on people's minds if it did not bring up to date something that has always been present in Islam. To the great surprise of our secular republicans, religious thought is stul very much alive in Islam. It cannot be denied that some of Muhammad's theses are active in today's world. What we are witnessing with Islam, however, is nonetheless much more than a return of conquest; it is what has been rising ever since the French Revolution, after the communist period that acted as an intermediary. Indeed, Leninism had some of these features, but what it lacked was religion. Our new escalation to extremes is thus able to use all components: culture, fashion, political theory, theology, ideology, and religion. What drives history is not what seems essential in the eyes of Western rationalists. If we had said in the 1980s that Islamism would play the role it plays today, people would have thought we were crazy. Yet the ideology promoted by Stalin already contained parareligious components that foreshadowed the increasingly radical contamination that has occurred over time. We therefore have to radically change the way we think and try to understand the situation without any presuppositions and using all the resources available from the study of Islam. The work to be done is immense. Personally, I have the impression that this religion has used the Bible as a support to rebuild an archaic religion that is more powerful than all the others. It threatens to become an apocalyptic tool, the new face of the escalation to extremes. Even though there are no longer any archaic religions, it is as if a new one had arisen built on the back of the Bible, a slighdy transformed Bible. It would be an archaic religion strengthened by aspects of the Bible and Christianity. Archaic religion collapsed in the face of Judeo-Christian revelation, but Islam resists. While Christianity eliminates sacrifice wherever it gains a foothold, Islam seems in many respects to situate itself prior to that rejection. Of course, there is resentment in its attitude to Judeo-Chrisdanity and the West, but it is also a new religion. Historians of religion, and even anthropologists, have to show how and why it emerged. Indeed, some aspects of this religion contain a relation to violence that we do not understand and that is all the more worrying for that reason. For us, it makes no sense to be ready to pay with one's life for the pleasure of seeing the other die. We do not know whether such phenomena belong to a special psychology or not. We are thus facing complete failure; we cannot talk about it, and we cannot document the situation because terrorism is something new that exploits Islamic codes but does not at all belong to classical Islamic theory. Today's terrorism is new, even from an Islamic point of view. It is a modern effort to counter the most powerful and refined tool of the Western world: technology. It counters technology in a way that we do not understand and that classical Islam may not understand either. Clausewitz is easier to integrate into a historical development. He gives us the intellectual tools to understand the violent escalation. But where do we find such ideas in Islam? Modern resentment never leads all the way to suicide. Thus, we do not have the analogical structures that could help us understand. I am not saying that they are not possible, that they will not appear, but I admit my inability to grasp them. This is why our explanations often belong to the province of fraudulent propaganda against Muslims. We do not experience this reality; we have no intimate, spiritual, phenomenological contact with it. Terrorism is a superior form of violence, and it asserts that it will win. There is no indication, however, that the work that remains to be done to free the Qur'an from 22 FIRST THINGS its caricatures will have any influence on terrorism itself, which is both linked to Islam and different from it. We can thus put forward the tentative hypothesis that the escalation to extremes now uses Islam as it once used Napoleonism and Pangermanism. Terrorism is fearsome in that it knows how to use the most deadly technology outside of any military institution. Clausewitzian war is an analogy that can make only imperfect sense of terrorism, but it certainly does foreshadow it. In my 1972 book Violence and the Sacred, I borrowed the idea from the Qur'an that the ram that saved Isaac from being sacnficed was the same one that was sent to Abel so that he would not have to kill his brother: proof that in the Qur'an sacrifice is also interpreted as a means of combating violence. From this, we can draw the conclusion that the Qur'an contains understanding of things that secular mentality cannot fathom: that sacrifice prevents vengeance, for example. Yet, this topic has disappeared from Islam, just as it has disappeared in Western thought. The paradox that we thus have to deal with is that Islam is closer to us today than to the world of Homer. Clausewitz allowed us to glimpse this, through what we have called his warlike religion, in which we have seen the emergence of something both very new and very primitive. Islamism, likewise, is a kind of event internal to the development of technology. We have to be able to think about both Islamism and the escalation to extremes at the same time; we need to understand the complex relations between these two realities. The unity of Christianity in the Middle Ages resulted in the Crusades, which were permitted by the papacy. And yet, the Crusades are not as important as Islam thinks. The Crusades were an archaic regression without consequences for the essence of Christianity. Christ died everywhere and for everyone. Seeing Jews and Christians as falsifiers is more irremediable. It allows Muslims to eliminate all serious discussion, all comparison among the three religions. It amounts to not wanting to see what is at stake in the prophetic tradition. Why has Christian revelation been subject to the most hostile and ferocious possible criticism for centuries, but not Islam? There is an abdication of reason here. In some respects, it resembles the aporia of pacifism, which can be a strong encouragement for aggression. The Qur'an would thus benefit from being studied in the same way that Jewish and Christian texts have been studied. I think that a comparative approach would reveal that it contains no real awareness of collective murder. By contrast, there is a Christian awareness of such murder. The two greatest conversions, those of Peter and Paul, are analogous: They are one with the awareness of having participated in a collective murder. Paul was there when Stephen was stoned to death. His departure for Damascus immediately followed that murder, which must have affected him terribly. Christians understand that the Passion has rendered coUective murder inoperative. This is why, far from reducing violence, the Passion aggravates it. Islamism seems to have understood this very quickly, but in the sense of jihad. There are forms of acceleration in history that are self-perpetuating. We have the impression that today's terrorism is somehow the heir of totalitarianism, that terrorism and totalitarianism contain similar forms of thought and ingrained habits. One of the possible threads of this continuity is the construction of a Napoleonic model by a Prussian general. The model was later taken up by Lenin and Mao Zedong (referenced by al-Qaeda). Clausewitz's bril- Uance lies in his having unknowingly anticipated a law that has become worldwide. The Cold War is over, and now we are in a hot war, given the hundreds, and tomorrow perhaps the thousands, of victims every day in the Middle East. The trend toward the apocalypse is humanity's greatest feat. The more probable this achievement becomes, the less we talk about it. I have come to a crucial point: that of a profession of faith, more than a strategic treatise, unless both are mysteriously equivalent, in the essential war that truth wages against violence. I have always been utterly convinced that violence belongs to a form of corrupted sacred, intensified by Christ's action when he placed himself at the heart of the sacrificial system. Satan is the other name of the escalation to extremes. The Passion has radically altered the archaic world. Satanic violence has long reacted against this holiness, which is an essential transformation of ancient religion. It is thus that God revealed himself in his Son, that religion was confirmed once and for all, thereby changing the course of human history. Inversely, the escalation to extremes reveals the power of this divine intervention. Divinity has appeared and it is more reliable than all the earlier theophanies, but no one wants to see it. Humanity is more than ever the author of its own fall because it has become able to destroy its world. With respect to Christianity, this is not just an ordinary moral condemnation but an unavoidable anthropological observation. Therefore we have to awaken our sleeping consciences. To seek to comfort is always to contribute to the worst. ED

Sobre Dio, por dois fãs

Quero aqui deixar meu relato de porque sou e me tornei mais fã do Dio, e talvez expresse a todos os imbecis como esse (resolvi deixar o respeito de lado) porque a morte do maior ídolo do metal abalou muita gente: Nas vésperas da final da copa de 2006, meu cunhado ia para a Itália e precisei levá-lo ao aeroporto. Para não deixar de assistir a partida, fomos bem mais cedo par aque eu tivesse tempo de voltar. Coincidentemente, o Dio tinha uma apresentação na semana seguinte em São Paulo. Deixei meu cunhado no desembarque e quando estava saindo encontrei o Dio, o Scott Warren w uma moça em uma das portas de desembarque. Nunca fui muito favorável à tietagem, pois sou fã da música e não da pessoa (principalmente pelo histórico com "estrelas" brasileiras mal-humoradas), mas não quis deixar essa oportunidade de falar com o meu maior ídolo até então. Parei meu carro, desci e fui ao encontro dele. Quando comecei a falar, as palavras mal saíam. Comecei a parguntar sobre o show, se haveriam surpresas, etc. Pedi desculpas por estar nervoso, aí veio minha surpresa: - "I'm just a regular person!" dizia ele. Repetiu isso por várias vezes durante nossa breve conversa. Quando disse que minhas irmãs estavam no carro comigo ele sugeriu que fossemos até o carro para ele dizer "Hello". Meu som tocava o "Inferno:Live". Eu disse que estava me preparando para o showl. Ele me perguntou se eu tinha o encarte para ele autografar!! Isso mesmo: ele ofereceu o autógrafo! Tão emocionado que eu estava, não ia me lembrar de pedir! Lembrar dessa cena é o que mais me emociona quando penso no Dio. Claro, a música, a voz, a criatividade, os dragões e espadas. Essas estão gravadas e podemos assistir sempre. Fui a todos os shows que pude, curti todas as músicas, mas o "ser humano" DIO, me impressionou. **************************************** O que me deixa muito triste, é que perdemos um cara extremamente amável e atencioso com todos os fãs. Um cara sempre preocupado em fazer um grande show para o seu público e, até pouco tempo antes de sua morte e não sendo mais um menino, fazia questão de receber e dar carinho para aqueles que o procuravam. Presenciei um fã, que não manjava muito de inglês, tentando dizer ao DIO o que estava sentindo com sua presença ali. Dio pediu por gentileza, se alguém poderia traduzir a conversa entre os dois... É esse cara que vai fazer falta, um ser humano acima da média para esse ramo! A voz esta gravada...já é eterna. É isso!

A discussão já começa com a disputa sobre se o instrutor respondeu ou não á pergunta "aqui é a sala de discussão?" kkkk. Seria melhor ele ter começado pelo curso de insulto. A paródia fica aquém do que realmente se passa no Brasil, pois aqui debate não ultrapassa a etapa da contradição teórica, isto quando, por milagre, contendores entram em acordo sobre o ponto de divergência, mas, o mais das vezes, empacando no "aquecimento verbal" das ofensas mútuas. E mesmo a nobre arte de ofender consegue ser vilipendiada por nossos argutos oradores e argumentadores, tranformada, como de fato é, em um amálgama de grosserias vulgares que só têm alguma eficácia sobre espíritos incapazes de perceber sutilezas. Ou seja, o ápice de um debate no Brasil é a ignorância acerca do que se está discutindo. Questões? Quem precisa delas! kkkkkk. Status quaestionis, "pô meu, o cara já vem zoando e me xingando com latinismos pedantes!" No meio roqueiro, um duplo consenso em torno dessa magnífica figura: Dio foi, além de extraordinário músico - indubitavelmente, o melhor vocal do heavy metal e um sujeito que consagrou sua vida integralmente à arte -, o cara mais amável e generoso com quem se podia topar nesse ambiente corrompido e inóspito do show business, onde os egos já se inflamam com um simples atrito de vaidades pueris. Por essa e outras razões, Dio, esse "rainbow in the dark", nunca morrerá nos corações dos fans, e seu legado se estenderá à eternidade.

RODADA DOHA O Itamaraty fez o Brasil apostar tudo na Rodada Doha, que foi para o vinagre. Quando viu tudo desmoronar, Amorim não teve dúvida: atacou os Estados Unidos.

UNESCO Amorim apoiou para o comando da Unesco o egípcio anti-semita e potencial queimador de livros Farouk Hosni. Ganhou a búlgara Irina Bukova. Para endossar o nome de Hosni, Amorim desprezou o brasileiro Márcio Barbosa, que contaria com o apoio tranqüilo dos Estados unidos e dos países europeus. Chutou um brasileiro, apoiou um egípcio, e venceu uma búlgara.

HONDURAS O Brasil apoiou o golpista Manuel Zelaya e incentivou, na prática, uma tentativa de guerra civil no país. Perdeu! Honduras realizou eleições limpas e democráticas. Lula não reconhece o governo.

AMÉRICA DO SUL Países sul-americanos pintam e bordam com o Brasil. Evo Morales, o índio de araque, nos tomou a Petrobras, incentivado por Hugo Chávez, que o Brasil trata como uma democrata irretocável. Como paga, promove a entrada do Beiçola de Caracas no Mercosul. Quem está segurando o ingresso, por enquanto, é o Parlamento… paraguaio! A Argentina impõe barreiras comerciais à vontade. E o Brasil compreende. O Paraguai decidiu rasgar o contrato de Itaipu. E o Equador já chegou a seqüestrar brasileiros. Mas somos muito compreensivos. Atitudes hostis, na América Latina, até agora, só com a democracia colombiana. Chamam a isso “pragmatismo”.

CUBA, PRESOS E BANDIDOS Lula visitou Cuba, de novo, no meio da crise provocada pela morte do dissidente Orlando Zapata. Comparou os presos políticos que fazem greve de fome a bandidos comuns do Brasil.

IRÃ, PROTESTOS E FUTEBOL Antes do apoio explícito ao programa nuclear e do vexame de agora, já havia demonstrado suas simpatias por Ahmadinjead e comparado os protestos das oposições contra as fraudes eleitorais à reclamação de uma torcida cujo time perde um jogo.

HISTÓRIA:

Estamos no ano de 1900. Bem perto de uma uma ponte de madeira, pintada de negro, nasceu a Associação Atlética Ponte Preta. Os jovens Miguel do Carmo o “Migué", Luiz Garibaldi Burghi, o "Gigette" e Antonio de Oliveira, o "Tonico Campeão", resolveram fundar o que é hoje, o mais antigo clube de futebol do país, tendo como inspiração para o nome, a velha ponte da ferrovia. For more information on the Jesus Movement, order "The Jesus People Movement: An Annotated Bibliography and General Resource" - now available. By most accounts, the Jesus People Movement began in 1967 with the opening of a small storefront evangelical mission called the Living Room in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury district. Though other missionary type organizations had preceded them in the area, this was the first one run solely by street Christians. Within a short time of these first stirrings a number of independent Christian communities sprang up all across North America. In Seattle, the Jesus People Army was born in response to a vision experienced by evangelist Linda Meissner, who had seen an "army of teenagers marching for Jesus." On the Sunset Strip, evangelist Arthur Blessitt opened the His Place nightclub and coffeehouse as a 24 hour way station for youth. At the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Jack Sparks and some other members of Campus Crusade decided to begin a countercultural outreach program called the Christian Liberation World Front (CWLF) directed towards reaching campus radicals. The ensuing groundswell of activity spawned a number of other developments as well. Realizing the need to open their churches to the hippie generation, many conservative pastors recruited hippie liaisons to their ministerial staff. Both Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel (in Santa Ana, California) with the recruitment of Lonnie Frisbee, and Lyle Steenis of Bethel Tabernacle (in Redondo Beach) with the recruitment of Breck Stevens found their churches radically transformed in the wake of their decisions. In order to proclaim the message of the gospel, hippie Christians simply adopted existing forms of communication. Mirroring the development of underground newspapers such as the Berkeley Barb, in 1969 evangelist Duane Pederson began publishing the Hollywood Free Paper as an evangelistic tool. Jesus papers with names like Right On!, The Fish, Street Level, and Cornerstone became a fundamental component of each street Christian community. [..............................................................] The following is an admittedly subjective list of Jesus Music albums. This list concentrates on roughly a 15 year period (1965 - 1980), so there are some collectible CCM lps that obviously won't be included. Albums were picked for both their quality and their market value. Thus, if your favorite album doesn't appear, please remember this reflects my personal tastes more than anything else. It is my hope that you will find some (or all. . . good luck) of these gems in your searching. They represent a formative time that many CCM fans know little or nothing about. I hope you are enriched by this music as I have been over the years. Maranatha! - David Di Sabatino Agape - Victims of Tradition (Renrut, 1972) I am admittedly biased on placing this one first (seeing as we are responsible for reissuing both of Agape's albums on CD), but it definitely deserves to be here. This is the 2nd of Agape's lps and is a more progressive lp than the first adding jazz keyboardist Jim Hess to the already tight musical lineup. Fred Caban on lead guitar and vocals, Mike Jungman on drums and Jim Peckhart on bass make up the rest of the band. Wilson McKinley - Spirit of Elijah (Voice of Elijah, 1973) The members of Wilson McKinley were saved as the result of the ministry of Carl Parks, one of the leaders of the Jesus People Army in Seattle. The Jesus People Army was the vision of Linda Meissner, a former staff worker of David Wilkerson's Teen Challenge ministry, who saw 'an army of young people marching for Jesus.' While on crusade through the Pacific Northwest, the members of the band wandered into a park to heckle Carl Parks' preaching. They ended up becoming Christians and becoming the JPA band. Though the quality is admittedly sub-par, the band has elements of the west-coast guitar scene. Randy Stonehill - Get Me Out of Hollywood (Phonogram, 1973) In this list because of its absolute scarcity. In 1973, or thereabouts, Randy left California to search out a recording contract in England. He recorded this over there and scrapped it just before release. The story is that most of the copies were destroyed, but a few survived and are floating around out there. Album includes the song 'Vegetables' which ended up being included in the Lonesome Stone Musical performed by The Sheep over in England as a part of Jim Palosaari's wandering Jesus People group. Good luck finding copies of this album. All Saved Freak Band - Brainwashed (Rock the World, 1975) Interesting story. This was a communal group of Jesus freaks from Ohio who revolved around the leadership of Larry Hill and included former lead guitarist for Pacific Gas & Electric, Glenn Schwarz. The group became intensely prophetic and apocalyptic, believing that their group was the sole remnant of Christianity. The band had 3 other albums, one of which also appears on this list. Out of Darkness - same (Key, 1970) English band sounding very much like Jimi Hendrix. A live CD of their music was just reissued by Plankton Records in England called the Celebration Sessions. Azitis - Help (Elco, 1971) The rumor is that this band won a music contest to record an album, but could only do so if they changed their lyrics to Christian themes. A really startling story because the content is very strong and seems to be penned by someone who is on the ball. Other than that, it is an excellent psychedelic album. Water Into Wine Band - Harvest Time Don't know a heck of a whole lot about this band or this album except that it is English folk rock and was sold solely at the first Greenbelt festival in 1972. It now sells for over $750. By virtue of its price alone it merits inclusion in this list. Yikes! Larry Norman - Street Level (One Way, 1971) One of the three albums he and Stonehill recorded with the money given to One Way by Pat Boone. There are two different versions of this lp (and numerous different label and numerical permutations). The more rare version is the 'Gold Label Underground Edition' which has songs from the musical 'Lion's Breath.' The more common version includes one side of a live concert recorded at Hollywood's First Presbyterian Church which ran a nightclub called the Salt Company. Larry got into some trouble with the hierarchy of the church after singing the song 'Right Here in America.' Harvest Flight - One Way (Destiny, 1971) Led by Evan Williams, who later went on to be in Phoenix Sonshine. Album includes excellent rendition of then popular 'One in the Spirit' (". . .and they'll know we are Christians by our love."). The Exkursions - same (custom, 1971) Chicago based psychedelic blues band with heavy fuzz guitar sound. Led by Mike Johnson who later went on to record solo projects and even earn songwriter of the year award. Band broke up because the other two members wavered in their faith. Since a number of sealed copies were unearthed last year, the value has gone down. Earthen Vessel - Hard Rock / Everlasting Life (NRS, 1970) Hard rock garage band with heavy fuzz guitar and female lead vocals. Wilson McKinley - Heaven's Gonna Be A Blast (Voice of Elijah, 1973) Their first real studio album after two earlier releases that were rather low budget. The group became Christians almost en masse when Linda Meissner's Jesus People Army troupe set up an evangelistic rally in High Bridge Park in Spokane. The group became the musical arm of evangelist Carl Parks' Voice of Elijah community. Last Call of Shiloh - same (Last Call, 1969) Affiliated with the Jesus People Army group out of Idaho. This release is among the earliest Jesus rock albums. Randy Stonehill - Born Twice (One Way, 1971) Released along with Larry Norman's Street Level and the Son Worshipers soundtrack on a very low budget. Three versions exist of this album. The most common one includes the song 'Christmastime' which is a cut tempo of the same song that Larry included on So Long Ago The Garden. The more rare version includes 'He is A Friend of Mine' instead of 'Christmastime' which is a lyrically altered version of a Byrds tune. The final and most rare version is a mispressing which has the same live concert pressed on both sides. The Sheep - Jeesus Rock (Finnlevy, 1972) The original Milwaukee Jesus People group split into three camps; the Jesus People USA (Resurrection Band), Bill Lowery's 'Christ is the Answer' ministry and a group that went over to Europe to evangelize. The Sheep were involved in the latter group and recorded this first album in less than 12 hours. Some songs are actually sung in Finnish. Very hard to find. All Saved Freak Band - My Poor Generation (Rock the World, 1973) Their first lp dedicated to two members of the Church of the Risen Christ community (Randy Markko and Tom Miller) who died in a car crash on the way to a concert. Vindication - same (custom, 1974) Trio of high school students doing what is referred to as 'monster rock.' A company in the Midwest is putting this album out on CD and reissuing it on vinyl. Agape - Gospel Hard Rock (Mark, 1971) Their first lp with a more straight ahead blues rocking feel. Only a trio at this juncture. Mustard Seed - same (Spectrum, 1971) Larry Norman - same (Starstorm/Rhema, 1977) This album is actually one of his that is worth the hunt. Released only in Australia (on either Starstorm or Rhema labels) it has different versions to some of the songs from 'So Long Ago The Garden' and a long version of If God is My Father. Phil Keaggy - Love Broke Thru (New Song, 1976) Jointly produced by Michael Omartian and Buck Herring it is a much more aggressive album than Keaggy's first release. The album contains the studio version of the most requested Keaggy composition entitled 'Time' and includes the first recorded version of the classic song 'Love Broke Through' which was penned by Keith Green, Randy Stonehill, and Todd Fishkind. Joshua - same (Impact, 1973) Good hard rock with some more mellow moments. Includes a great cover of Larry Norman's "I Wish We'd All Been Ready." Larry Norman - Bootleg (One Way, 1973) Double album with many various label colors and numbers. An odd collection of songs and interview sessions that capture the essence of the Jesus movement and Larry's role. The Sheep - same (Myrrh UK, 1973) Their second release, this group was one of the two bands to emerge from the Milwaukee Jesus People group (the other was Resurrection Band). The Sheep were under the leadership of Jim Palosaari's group which headed overseas to Europe to evangelize throughout Finland, Sweden, and eventually in England where they produced and performed the musical Lonesome Stone. Wilson McKinley - On Stage (custom, 1971) This album goes for a lot of money because of its scarcity, but its production quality is really poor. Apparently, unbeknownst to the band, their manager recorded the concert on a cheap tape recorder and later released it without any further mixing. Ron and Bill Moore - Lo and Behold (Martin, 1969) Included here because it is probably the very first indigenous Jesus music album ever recorded. Ron went on to record a number of his own albums on his homespun label Airborn. He also produced and helped a number of other artists get their start in Christian music such as Mark Heard whose original album was also released on Airborn. The Son Worshipers Soundtrack (One Way, 1972) This is the soundtrack for a movie piecemealed together by Bob Cording and Weldon Hardenbrook and distributed through Larry Norman's One Way label. It is a half hour documentary of the Jesus People Movement featuring interview footage, some great moments on campus at University of California at Berkeley, some Calvary Chapel scenes shot of the early days at Calvary Chapel. The movie includes footage of Jack Sparks (of the Christian World Liberation Front), Duane Pederson (of the Hollywood Free Paper), the preaching of Os Guinness, some interview footage of Jesus freak evangelist Lonnie Frisbee interspersed with some music. The soundtrack is taken verbatim from the movie and is not worth the money that people are asking, but it is somewhat collectible. Resurrection Band - Awaiting Your Reply (Star Song, 1978) One of the best releases from the Chicago based musical band of the Jesus People USA community. The band was originally called Charity but changed its name to Resurrection Band in the late stages of 1972 after the four-way split of the original Milwaukee Jesus People community led by Jim Palosaari. The JPUSA community still lives in Chicago doing very much the same things that they were doing back in 1972. Fraction - Moonblood (Angelicus, 1971) This is an absolute killer album! If you can get a hold of a taped copy you will absolutely be blown away. When copies come up for sale in collector's circles they go for over $1500. Overland Stage - same (Epic, 1972) A group of North Dakota Jesus freaks who were slammed by Rolling Stone in their first record review and were never heard from again. Jesus People - Live at the Hollywood Palladium (Creative Sound, 1972) Includes a couple of live tunes by JC Power Outlet and the Morning Star Gospel Rock Band. The concert from which some of these tunes were taken from was put on by Duane Pederson and the folks behind the Hollywood Free Paper. Arthur Blessitt and the Eternal Rush - Soul Session at His Place (Creative Sound, 1972) A kitschy album of rock music from the Eternal Rush (a band made up of ex-dopers) and sermonizing from Arthur Blessitt, the self-proclaimed minister of the Sunset Strip. Agape - Live in 1973 (Renrut, 1973) 8-track only Not too many people are aware that this even exists. . . but it does. If you got an 8-track player and you can find a copy, then you have something that not too many people own. Jeremy Spencer & Children of God (CBS, 1972) Former guitarist with Fleetwood Mac just up and left the band one night in Los Angeles. When the members finally found him, Jeremy had changed his name and joined the radical cult group who emerged from a Teen Challenge coffeehouse in Huntington Beach. Spencer still does all the group's music and has released number of COG projects over the years. Larry Norman - Only Visiting This Planet (Verve, 1972) The most popular of all CCM albums ever released. Low on this list because of its availability. All Saved Freak Band - Sower (War Again, 1980) The final record released by the ASFB although it was recorded much earlier. By 1980 the group's apocalyptic views had forced their retreat from any contact with mainstream society. In the commentary included with the album the group outlines the five visions that group leader Larry Hill had received between 1965 and 1971 about the impending end-time war which would come as divine judgment upon America because of her sins. By the release of this album, the group had disbanded due to internal conflicts concerning overly excessive child discipline and authoritarian leadership. Hill and a few remaining members are still located on the church's property in Orwell, Ohio. Paul Clark - Good to Be Home (Seed, 1975) This album just sounds like they were having a good time recording it. Includes Phil Keaggy. Larry Norman - Upon This Rock (Capitol, 1969) Reported to be the first Jesus rock lp in existence, but there are a couple of lps that predate it. It also must be stated that Larry Norman was not the only one doing Jesus rock at the time, but he did have the widest exposure because of his contract with Capitol. And, to be fair, his music effectively captured the essence of those days. The album stands as one of the great legacies of the Jesus People Movement. Because I Am - same (Clear Light, 1973) A various artist album including a band called the 'e' band which featured future Petra singer Greg Volz. The Everlastin' Living Jesus Music Concert Maranatha! Music, 1971) The Everlastin' Living Jesus Music Concert Maranatha! Music, 1971) The very first record that Maranatha! Music, a subsidiary company of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, ever released. Maranatha!'s first two recordings (The Children of the Day's first album being the other one) initially sold 25,000 copies propelling the company into worldwide prominence in the area of contemporary Christian music. Musically, many of the Maranatha! groups patterned themselves after the stylistic lead of Love Song which was laid-back country rock sound although there were some exceptions (i.e. the jazz-rock of Sweet Comfort or the unique sound of the Children of the Day). Maranatha! Music also stressed the equation of music and ministry as more of an emphasis than the exploration of artistic creativity. Love Song - Feel the Love (Good News, 1977) Double lp released after the band had broken up. Between 1971 and 1976 Love Song was the most popular of all the Jesus music bands obtaining a lot of exposure with their allegiance to Calvary Chapel.

Quem é Igor Maia, compositor de "Funeral Memories"?

Eis o garotão responsável por trazer à luz "Funeral Memories", que se pode ouvir no final desta página. Herdou o refinado gosto musical do pai, mas lhe acrescentou algo que este está longe de possuir: gênio criativo (ao menos, no que diz respeito ao mundo supra-sensvel das harmonias, porque o mundo, também supra-sensível, das proporções matemáticas é com ele mesmo, Adolfo Maia. Se bem que a descoberta destas últimas, caso se adote uma perspectiva platônica, é pura reminiscência daquilo que orginariamente já sabíamos, não sendo, pois, produção livre, embora regrada, de uma nova realidade). Enfim, pai com números, filho com notas musicais, quem sai ganhando é quem ama o que em si é belo e verdadeiro. Espero que este seja o meu caso e dos demais membros da família!

IGOR LEÃO MAIA (Campinas, 1988) Dispersões para violino, cordas e percussão Maia começou sua carreira como violinista em 1997 na Martin Luther King School em Providence nos Estados Unidos. Em 1998 retornou ao Brasil, onde continuou seus estudos de violino na UNICAMP e iniciou sua carreira de compositor. Em 2004 transferiu-se para Plymouth na Inglaterra onde estudou violino com Fiona Mc Lean e composição com Patrício da Silva. Duas de suas obras estrearam na Universidade de Plymouth e parte de sua Sonata para Cordas foi executada pela Orquestra Sinfônica Jovem da UNICAMP em 2006. Neste mesmo ano foi admitido no curso de bacharelado em composição no Conservatório Real de Haia, Holanda, onde estuda atualmente sob orientação de Diderik Wagenaar, Cornelis de Bondt e Gilius van Bergeijk. Sua obra Funeral Memories foi finalista do concurso Jovens Compositores da Holland Symfonia (Holanda) e foi executada pela orquestra Holland Symfonia no Festival Gaudeamus (Amsterdam) em 2007. Participou do “Spring Festival” de Haia nos anos de 2007 e 2008. Desde 2007 cursa regência com o maestro Jos Vermunt e dirigiu concertos de música latina com alunos do conservatório de Haia em 2007 e 2008. Também regeu a Orquestra Filarmônica Nazarena de Campinas. Sua peça Horizontes foi executada em Maio de 2008 na Muziekgebouw em Amsterdam. Segundo o compositor,Dispersões “é uma obra que incorpora relações de espaço e de tempo. Ela foi escrita para violino solo, conjunto de cordas e percussão e é dedicada a Samuel Lima, violinista que incentivou a criação da obra. A obra foi escrita no começo dos meus estudos na Holanda em um momento de transição da minha escrita musical, possuindo assim as mais diversas influências. De uma forma geral, nessa obra, as idéias musicais são dispersas pelo conjunto instrumental (vertente espaço) e no decorrer da peça (vertente tempo). Ideologia, loucura, picaretagem ou tudo isso junto

Freud era pervertido? Tudo indica que sim. Nietzsche era louco? Nos seus últimos anos de vida, com certeza. Marx era um megalomaníaco obcecado em destronar o Deus cristão? As teses de Richard Wurmbrand são um tanto difíceis de refutar. Os tres pensadores podem ser qualificados igualmente de ideólogos?Aí começa minha dúvida.

Primeiro, teríamos que ter um conceito bem definido do que é ideologia. A definição marxista tá fora, porque é feita sob medida para livrar sua própria doutrina e enquadrar todas as demais. Se se entende por ideologia uma doutrina, verdadeira ou falsa não importa (porque para saber disso teríamos antes que examinar as teses de que ela se compõe enquanto teses, isto é, proposições puramente teóricas), dirigida a MUDAR um estado de coisas, isto é, a TRANSFORMAR a realidade, mobilizando-se a vontade das massas, o que só pode ser feito através da PROPAGANDA (que é sempre política), então:

1) não há dúvidas de que a doutrina marxiana e todas as suas derivações são ideologias.De fato, a tese básica de que a história humana caminha inexoravelmente para o estabelecimento definitivo de uma sociedade sem classes, não é uma tese, mas uma CAUSA a ser defendida intransigentemente por seus adeptos, inclusive em detrimento da realidade.

2) o pensamento de Nietzsche não diz como as coisas DEVEM SER, mas propõe uma visão (repito: independentemente de em si mesma ser verdadeira ou falsa), de como elas, num nível metafísico, SÃO. Portanto, esse pensamento, pelo critério acima, não é ideológico.

3) No entanto, as teses de Nietzsche (assim como qualquer tese puramente teórica, seja filosófica seja científica) podem ser empregadas ideologicamente.Por exemplo, quando as análises que Nietzsche faz do cristianismo (por sinal, muito perpicazes e interessantes em alguns casos) se convertem em diretrizes de uma ação política anti-cristã.

É claro que o atacar ou defender causas não necessariamente se constituem em procedimentos ideológicos. Para que sejam ideológicos a defesa ou o ataque de causas, estas têm que ser representadas como algo do interesse de grupos inteiros de pessoas sem que estas, contudo, tenham passado procuração a quem quer que seja para falar em nome delas. Tá excluído, portanto, a atividade advocatícia, que por sinal é muito bem remunerada!Assim, as causas a que se atem o discurso ideológico só podem ser princípios gerais de conduta que os ideológos supõem ser bons para todo mundo. Mais: que eles querem, por meio da propaganda, impor sobre a vontade dos outros com o propósito óbvio de controlar essa vontade e submetê-la aos seus caprichos.Por isso, os princípios pressupostos pela economia de mercado não são ideológicos! Quer você queira, quer não, o que determina objetivamente que algo é útil e, portanto, possui valor de troca, é a lei de oferta e procura! Viole-a e você, como agente econômico, irá à bancarrota! Esta lei não vale ou passa a valer porque o teórico liberal assim o deseja! Por isso também os princípios morais defendidos pela maioria dos conservadores não são ideológicos, justamente porque VIGORAM NOS COSTUMES dos povos ocidentais desde longa data, fazendo parte do corpo de toda uma TRADIÇAO, esta, sim, o objeto de ataque dos ideólogos, que, desse modo, querem nos fazer crer que ela, a tradição, não passa também de uma causa entre outras. Especificamente quanto a Nietzsche, tenho a seguinte opinião: ele foi, sem dúvida, um grande escritor que, ocasionalmente, teve lá seus insights filosóficos, entre os quais eu incluo sua metafísica da vontade de potência, que Nietzsche põe à base da transvaloração dos valores como signo de nobreza do homem que, recusando a "moral dos fracos", cria seus próprios valores. Ora, esse "ideal" só pode provir mesmo de uma mente conturbada.Qualquer pessoa normal sabe que a palavra "vontade" designa a nossa humana capacidade de agir. Alguns filósofos chamam de vontade essa capacidade na medida em que está submetida a regras da razão ou então dirigida a fins que só a razão como tal pode propor. Ok. Se assim, que sentido tem uma "vontade" que atua, metafisicamente, por "detrás" da própria faculdade de agir humana? Pior, que não tem outro fim senão incrementar o seu prório poder? Pior ainda, que não está submetida a qualquer regra e, ademais, se impõe sobre toda regra?Ao menos, Schopenhauer, que falou pela primeira vez de uma "vontade na natureza", entendeu por esta uma força cega e infinita, que não só não possui limite determinado como também não se dirige a qualquer fim, sendo, pois, fonte de todo o Mal. De modo que agir moralmente bem é, em alguma medida, resistir a esse poder em nós, arrefecendo a "nossa" vontade, subtraindo-nos da inclinação, comum a todos os entes, de perdurar em nosso ser. O que só é possivel pela percepção mística de que Ser se identifica com Mal e Nada, com Bem.

Uma prova de que Nietzsche não foi um gênio ou que Deus não existe! hehehehehe:

Deus, sendo omnipotente e omnisciente, não pode permitir que os entes criados pensem absurdos acerca Dele, o Criador.

Ora, Nietzsche, que existiu e era louco, pensava que Deus está morto e que, portanto, não há valores eternos.

Logo, Deus não existe (no máximo, é alucinação de Nietzsche)

Mas se Deus não existe e Nietzsche insistia em atacar quimeras (transvalorando o que, no fim das contas, não vale nada),então Nietzsche é um fanático lutantdo contra moinhos de vento, não um gênio.

Sobre Hegel

A filosofia hegeliana, no todo e nas partes, é um completo embuste. O cara, primeiro, diz que as antinomias (conflitos da razão pura consigo mesma, que Kant descobriu ser uma consequência inevitável da tese semântica que identifica coisas em geral com coisas em si) são inerentes à razão. Conclui daí que o que move a razão não é o fato de ela trazer no seu bojo certos problemas a priori, mas a própria contradição. Ok, se se assume a premissa acima.Depois o filósofo, que acelerou a redação da sua "Ciência da lógica" (livro pouco lido, quase nada compreendido, mas muito mencionado) para poder pagar as contas, identifica o racional com o real.Conclusão incontornável: a própria realidade encerra contradições!Isso é um total disparate: há, certamente, oposições na realidade, mas contradição é uma tal que só tem lugar no discurso, que, se permite um afirmar e um negar sobre um mesmo sujeito, se auto-anula como discurso.O próprio Kant diz que as antinomias se constituem em uma anomalia cuja causa é o pressuposto semântico acima mencionado (que ele chama realismo transcendental) e não a própria estrutura da razão, que está submetida aos princípios básicos da lógica formal (de não contradição, terceiro excluso, identidade, bivalência, modus tollens, modus ponens, dictum de nullo e dictum de omini) A violação desses princípios acarreta a própria destruição do discurso na sua pretensão de validade objetiva, sendo esses princípios, condições necessárias, embora não suficientes, da verdade.Das duas uma, ou Hegel tá errado ou 2000 anos de estudos de lógica e de exercício do puro e simples bom senso foram em vão!E eis aí a fonte mais famosa da porralouquice esquerdopata: "Eu conheço a estrutura profunda do real, ela é a contradição que arrasta a história humana no redomoinho da tese-antítese-síntese; logo nada me resta fazer, como "intelectual", senão transformar essa realidade de modo que ela chegue mais rapidamente ao seu epílogo: o espírito absoluto, a sociedade comunista ou qualquer outra utopia gnóstico-messiânica. Enquanto isso não vêm, faço ´crítica´social e música de protesto"

Um atenuante: houve apropriação indébita de Hegel por Marx, o sujeito que jurava de pé juntos que as condições de vida da classe operária iria piorar mais e mais até suscitar espontaneamente a revolução socialista e a conseqüente abolição da propriedade privada. Dele, que mais se pode esperar!É certo que a idéia de um Espírito absoluto, em Hegel, se refere ao Ser como tal, não se reduzindo a imbróglios políticos.Agora, Hegel escrever tudo o que escreveu, de uma prolixilidade e obscuridade incríveis, para depois concluir no panteísmo! Ou seja, num ateísmo de quem não consegue se livrar da idéia de Deus!Mas ora, se os princípios supremos da filosofia hegeliana são uma contradictio in adjecto, então ele, coerente como todo bom pensador, não poderia chegar a outra coisa senão uma conclusão contraditória (esse coisa spinoziana de Deus sive Natura, hahahahaha). Os erros de Hegel só vêm corroborar que 1) a contradição repugna a Razão e não tem lugar na natureza, 2) que a lógica é a ciência que estuda as leis a que o discurso tem que se submeter para manter-se em sua pretensão de verdade, isto é, para não se auto-anular como discurso teórico, 3) que é uma coisa completamente estapafurdia identificar a natureza com aquilo que, por definição, a transcende, a não ser que o propósito fosse justamente negar a transcendência.

Da desqualificação dos sentidos à recusa da realidade

A desqualificação cartesiana dos sentidos é feita nas Meditações de filosofia primeira, quando o filósofo francês diz que os sentidos, por nos terem enganado alguma vez (ele evoca o fenômeno da refração da luz), não são epistemologicamente confiáveis. Em Regras para direção do intelecto, ele propõe a matemática como organon do entendimento puro para a correção dos dados sensoriais.Conclusão minha: os võos especulativos que Descartes faz no céu supra-sensível são milimetricamente calculados para fazer o entendimento aterrissar, com toda segurança, no aeroporto da física experimental, de onde não será mais preciso decolar, já que se possui um fundamento inconcusso para a ciência: a certeza do cogito, ergo suum, proposição cuja verdade resiste tanto à dúvida natural quanto à dúvida metafísica, da qual não escapam nem mesmo as verdades matemáticas. Numa carta de 28 de junho de 1643, dirigida à rainha Elisabeth, com quem mantinha intenso intercâmbio intelectual, Descartes abre o peito: "E eu posso dizer, em verdade, que a principal regra que sempre observei em meus estudos e aquela que creio ter sido a mais útil para aquisição de todo sorte de conhecimento, consiste em nunca empregar senão pouquíssimas horas, por dia, aos pensamentos que ocupam a imaginação [ao exame de questões científicas. tanto de física quanto de matemática - colchetes meus] e pouquíssimas horas, por ano, aos pensamentos que ocupam apenas o entendimento [ ao uso do entendimento puro, no exame de questões metafísicas ou filosóficas - colchetes meus], reservando todo o resto de meu tempo ao relaxamento dos sentidos e ao repouso do espírito; inclusive eu conto, entre os exercícios da imaginação, todas as conversações sérias e tudo aquilo a que é preciso dar atenção"Entenderam? Descartes fala uma coisa que deveria chocar todo estudante e professor de filosofia: que esta não pode ser uma atividade vulgar, a ser desenvolvida quotidianamente ou, pior, sob à tutela da disciplina acadêmica! Este, ao meu ver, é o lado inequivocamente bom da epístola. O lado "ruim" é que Descartes propõe, sem nenhum constrangimento, a subordinação das questões metafísicas às questões que só se podem formular empírica e matematicamente. Outro aspecto deletério é que ele estimula a vagabundagem estudantil*: espairecer o espírito e relaxar os sentidos são tudo o que essa turba "revolucionária" (que quer transformar a realidade para só depois conhecê-la) sabe fazer, luxos "burgueses" que uma mente teoricamente obstinada, séria e honesta não se pode permitir.Descartes parece aí até um herdeiro direto dos goliardos medievais, protótipos do famigerado intelectual boêmio, crítico da ordem estabelecida e propagandista de “um outro mundo possível” (graças, é claro, às facilidades do prelo e ao conforto proporcionado pela economia de mercado), do qual o ideólogo de esquerda é a expressão mais acabada.

O emblema metafísico da condição humana

Embora não comportem nenhuma solução positiva e definitiva (e foi isso que Kant procurou mostrar na Crp), o fato mesmo de emanarem da própria razão humana e esta ser obrigada, se quiser se furtar ao dogmatismo e ao ceticismo fácil, a provar sua insolubilidade (também isto é o que Kant nos ensina), deixa bem claro o quanto os problemas ditos metafísicos - por mais toscos que sejam em sua formulação - são relevantes para a nossa própria auto-consciência.

Essas questões nos acossam, sobretudo quanto estamos em "crise existencial", ou seja, quando o "sentido" do existir como tal se torna algo problemático. Em termos heideggerianos, quando o sentido do Ser é, literalmente, sentido pelo homem, recebido afetivamente, o que nos põe diante do abismo do Nada e da possibilidade de "não mais estar aí".

Fechar os olhos para as questões metafísicas, fixando-se obstinadamente sobre as nossas carências materiais, é LOUCURA tanto quanto (ou até muito mais que) ser sugado por elas, descuidando-se por completo das exigências da vida quotidiana.Quem lhes é indiferente perde toda a autenticidade enquanto ser humano, transformando-se em outro que ele mesmo.E isso que é ALIENAÇÃO RADICAL: o cara deixa de ser ELE PRÓPRIO, esquivando-se do peso existencial que tal condição implica, para ser uma OUTRA COISA entre outras (líder sindical, pedreiro, médico ou policial ou ... salvador da humanidade)

Não podemos ter uma exata medida da nossa finitude, senão por comparação com o infinito transcendente, por força do qual somente somos obrigados a tomar consciência de que há um LIMITE para o humano, mesmo para o demasiado humano.

Querer ultrapassar esse limite, esse métron, é o que os gregos antigos chamavam de hybris, uma falta grave (soberba impiedade) cometida contra os deuses imortais, que, para se vingarem, fazem o destino cego se voltar contra o infrator original (ou seus descendentes), mesmo que este, do ponto de vista moral, seja um sujeito digno de apreço, a cujos atos mais virtuosos se seguirão conseqüências imprevisíveis e desastrosas.

Marx, pretendendo empunhar o cetro da justiça eterna e destronar o Deus cristão, acabou por patologicamente incorporar a némesis divina, sob a forma de um ódio ressentido à obra do Criador. Maior soberba que essa não consigo imaginar. E veja quanta tragédia ele trouxe para os membros de sua família e até para algumas pessoas que faziam parte do seu círculo de amizade.

A tragédia de Marx, infelizmente, se estendeu a toda humanidade: 150 milhões de mortos causados por uma utopia insana provocam em mim as mesmas paixões que acometiam os espectadores da poesia trágica de Sófocles e Eurípedes: terror e compaixão, só que com o agravante de que hoje ela não permite nenhuma catarse da nossa alma, exatamente porque o drama é real e os personagens são representados compulsoriamente pela própria platéia.

Metafísica, pensamento revolucionário e relativismo moral.

Seguem, doravante, alguns textos que escrevi sob a forma de comentários na comunidade do Orkut "Marx é inquestionável"

****************** A chave para se entender a mentalidade revolucionária, e não apenas o marxismo, é exatamente essa apontada por Voegelin: a proibição do questionar metafísico, questionar esse que orientou a especulação filosófica desde os gregos e que foi, por assim dizer, arrefecendo sob a influência, cada vez mais forte, de um pensamento esquizofrênico que acabou se voltando para o sujeito e a subjetividade humanos, em detrimento da própria realidade, que, em seu todo, ultrapassa (transcende) o mundo imediato dos sentidos.

Isso já transparece no vocabulário cartesiano, que, a despeito de se mover dentro dos marcos definidos pelo pensamento medieval, para o qual o fundamento (o subjectum, o hypokeimenon) é sempre o modo de ser em si e por si da res (coisa)) - em oposição ao modo de ser objetivo, próprio das coisas enquanto mero conteúdo de pensamento - , privilegia a capacidade representativa (pensar para Descartes é representar) do homem e tudo que é posto como correlato de nossas representações (idéias), que Descartes chama também de realidade objetiva.

A partir de então a res cogitans não apenas se torna fundamento, mas um fundamento inconcusso, sobre o qual se mantém tudo o mais, tanto a res extensa quanto a res infinita.A posição cartesiana sustenta que tudo que se pode conhecer apoditicamente acerca da natureza e de Deus está atrelado à certeza de si como sujeito ou substância pensante. Embora Descartes, de certa forma, desqualifique os sentidos, apenas o faz para mostrar que o papel do intelecto é corrigir o que, nesse domínio, é intrinsecamente ilusório, fazendo com que todo questionar metafísico desemboque, ao fim e ao cabo, na elaboração de procedimentos matemáticos para a pesquisa empírica.

Há uma carta interessante de Descartes, dirigida à rainha da Suécia, em que ele diz que a especulação metafísica só pode ocorrer em poucos momentos da vida e que todo o tempo restante deve ser dedicado às questões que concernem à imaginação (isto é, ás questões científicas) e aos afazeres quotidianos, a que nenhum mortal, evidentemente, pode de todo se furtar. Não é à toa que a reflexão cartesiana sobre problemas morais é extremamente incipiente, reduzindo-se, no fim das contas, à decisão voluntária de por tudo sob parêntesis, a famosa dúvida metafísica ou hiperbólica, a qual, curiosamente, se apóia da hipótese de um Deus enganador, embusteiro, da qual temos de desvencilharmos através da conquista de uma verdade inabalável (o bem conhecido "se duvido, eu penso; e se penso, eu necessariamente existo enquanto substância pensante).

O ataque moderno à transcendência do ser é continuado por Immanuel Kant, que, não obstante, reconhece que a metafísica é não só possível mas mesmo efetiva enquanto uma mera propensão (ele usa o termo alemão "Anlage") da razão humana. Para ele, a metafísica, assim como a matemática, nada mais é que o discurso logicamente articulado acerca de problemas a priori constitutivos da razão pura, para cuja solução esta é inevitavelmente compelida sem, no entanto, ter garantia alguma de que, e como, os objetos de suas perguntas são possíveis. Daí, a necessidade de uma crítica da razão pura teórica.

Como ciência, diz Kant, a metafísica é possível se, e somente se, abandonar o "soberbo nome de ontologia", ciência do ente enquanto ente (dos objetos em geral), e se restringir a uma tarefa mais modesta, a saber, a de expor os objetos da experiência (os fenômenos) em conceitos puros do entendimento, tarefa que cabe à parte da lógica transcendental denominada por ele analítica transcendental, que é uma teoria das condições de possibilidade dessa experiência. Também aqui a metafísica é reduzida a um cânon do uso empírico do entendimento, com vistas a explicar a eficácia heurística dos procedimentos metodológicos empregados pela física moderna.

Tanto Kant quanto Descartes, porém, não negam a existência de Deus: para o primeiro, a idéia de Deus é a idéia de um ente incondicionado com que a razão inevitavelmente topa por força de uma máxima lógica que exige, para qualquer item condicionado do entendimento, a busca da totalidade das condições e sua unidade absoluta, idéia que, embora destituída de significação objetiva de um ponto de vista teórico, refere-se a um objeto necessário da vontade, na medida em que esta é determinada ao cumprimento do dever pelo imperativo categórico. Para o segundo, Deus é, ao menos, a garantia última da adequação das nossas representações às próprias coisas, isto é, o fundamento supremo da verdade e o mantenedor da ordem cósmica.

O materialismo do século XIX é o responsável pela rejeição completa de Deus e da realidade transcendente. Pois, agora, Deus nem pode desempenhar um papel heurístico na pesquisa experimental (como uma idéia em si problemática, mas em vista da qual podemos nos orientar na inquirição dos fenômenos) nem pode ser postulado como condição de possibilidade do sumo bem do homem (a felicidade como prêmio máximo a uma vida moralmente boa).O homem não é mais livre, sendo apenas um joguete nas mãos de forças naturais e sociais. A alma do homem também não é mais imortal, pois este, e todos os valores que alimentam sua vida espiritual, é concebido como um arranjo provisório e contingente, útil para a perpetuação da espécie, mas dispensável tão logo a "natureza" ou a "história" alcance os seus propósitos. Nossa existência individual é passageira e efêmera. Não nos resta, então, outra saída que sacrificar nossa vida pessoal ao "bem" da coletividade, eufemismo para espécie humana. Nesse contexto, a mens revolubilis é aquela que, seduzida pela vã presunção de conhecer toda a realidade (reduzida ao mundo dos sentidos), não tem outro fim supremo senão transformá-la, isto é, ajudar na precipitação do "mundo que virá", admirável aos seus olhos, terrível aos olhos daqueles que, conhecendo o limite do humano, sabem o abismo incomensurável que separa o infinito transcendente do finito imanente. Não nos enganemos: todo espírito revolucionário é um gnóstico. Um exemplo claro disso temos na crítica de Marx ao sistema capitalista e na tese (na verdade, de Proudhon) segundo a qual a propriedade privada (desnecessário dizer dos meios de produção) é em si um roubo.Ora, a idéia de roubo pressupõe a idéia de propriedade. A rigor, roubo é uma espécie de propriedade, a propriedade indébita ou ilegítima, sendo a propriedade legítima um direito natural do homem como tal, o direito de ter algo como seu, uma vez que, desde que considerado útil e, por conseguinte, objeto de desejo, algo não pode ser ao mesmo tempo em si inapropriável (uma res nulius).

Marx evidentemente troca o gênero pela espécie, engatando a isso um outro absurdo: a idéia de propriedade coletiva, pois dizer que todos possuem algo (cujo uso justo seria o uso comum) é o mesmo que dizer que esse algo não é de ninguém e que, portanto, é em si inapropriável. Sem uma esfera externa de liberdade, o homem deixa de ser homem. Essa esfera abrange, além da propriedade ou direito de posse (de ter algo como seu, isto é, para uso exclusivo), também o direito à integridade de seu corpo (direito à vida) e o direito à honra (isto é, á personalidade moral e jurídica), que é o direito de ser considerado, antes de qualquer decisão judicial em contrário, pessoa irrepreensível, o que, em última instância, é a idéia de presunção de inocência conjugada à idéia de imputalibilidade das ações livres (pelas quais a pessoa honrada tem responsabilidade).

Enfim, se nenhuma ação é imputável, se nenhuma coisa útil pode ser possuída e se o próprio corpo não pode ocupar um lugar no espaço, as palavras "roubo", "furto", "homicídio" e "calúnia" teriam que ser banida de nosso vocabulário jurídico e, em conseqüência, NINGUÉM PODERIA LEGITIMAMENTE ALEGAR TER SOFRIDO UMA INJUSTIÇA.

Se Marx tiver razão, todos os mais caros valores morais seriam quimeras sem sentido e a raça humana não passaria de um bando de loucos a se baterem uns contra os outros nesse minúsculo rincão do Universo. E isso, obviamente, incluiria o dito cujo e sua utopia socialista!
